Saint Mary Star of the Sea School is a regional Catholic school rooted in faith, community, and academic excellence, nestled in the heart of Hampton Roads.

Age Requirements for Enrollment

  • Early Learners (EL) & Junior Kindergarten (JK)
    Students must be 3 or 4 years old by September 30th of the school year.
  • Kindergarten
    Students must be 5 years old by September 30th of the school year.
  • First Grade
    Students must be 6 years old by September 30th and must have successfully completed an accredited kindergarten program. Documentation from the recognized school is required.

Parent Responsibilities Before Acceptance

  • Families must complete an online application.
  • Unofficial student records may be provided and will be kept on file until the school requests official records.
  • Registration documents may be submitted via email to admin@smsscs.org or fax to 757-723-6544.
  • All documentation will be reviewed promptly, and approval for enrollment will be completed in an expedited manner.
  • Upon arrival in the area, students will complete an academic assessment.

Documents Required Prior to Acceptance

  • School Records Release Form, completed and faxed to 757-723-6544, or sent by email to admin@smsscs.org.
  • Current school year report card
  • Standardized testing completed in the previous two academic years
  • Any learning disability or special education evaluations from the diagnosing professional for academic accommodations review/determination of support resource availability.
  • Behavior/School infractions report
  • Recommendation from current teacher/school principal (as the admissions team determines appropriate)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Catholic parents only: parents provide a copy of a baptismal certificate for their child.

Students will be required to complete a reading and math skills assessment once an application has been submitted/processed.

Consideration for acceptance includes

  • Space availability is reviewed after current students re-enroll.
  • New students whose families currently have siblings enrolled in the school
  • Catholic families
  • Children of non-Catholic families
  • Entrance assessment results, academic, attendance, and behavior records have been reviewed by the admissions team.
